A different kind of Garden Ornament!
Just a couple of weeks ago we were a couple with 3 dogs and a desire to travel and visit more places in the UK and Europe - while we still can!
Both my hubby and I are turning 60 this year - hubby is already there - and we made the decision that now is the time for us to do all those things we've been wanting to do, and to enjoy more precious time together.
It was with this in mind that we decided to change the garden - I hear you ask how is changing the garden going to help you to travel? Well just keep reading and you will find out!
We set off one Sunday, it was a bit of a dull day, to have a look for a garden water feature, and as we drove down the A5 we came upon a caravan and motor home showroom and hubby said 'shall we have a nosy' and I of course said yes! Off we toddled and looked inside a couple of motor homes, but I wasn't impressed with any of them, so we left. We drove another few miles, going in the total opposite direction for the garden centre, until we came upon another motor home and caravan showroom and in drove hubby and off we toddled - again! We looked at a couple and I wasn't impressed, but then I came upon one that really was just gorgeous! It was a Burstner Solano T615, I'd never heard of it before but hubby had, which leads me to think that he had been secretly looking for some time and this looking for a garden water feature was all a bit of a smoke screen!! We sat in the seats, we worked out where the dogs would lie and how we would make sure they were secure in their harnesses, I worked out how many bottles of Prosecco we could fit in the fridge (we all have different priorities, hubby was wittering about miles per gallon and waste water which really didn't interest me at all!!), we sat on the very comfy fixed bed (this to me made it great because all that setting up and putting away beds used to drive me crackers when we had a caravan many moons ago!) with the memory foam mattress and had we had the keys I think hubby would have taken it there and then - after paying for it of course! We spoke to the salesman, who I have to say was not pushy and was very honest with us and answered our many questions, before we left to go to the garden centre.
Having been married to hubby for almost 37 years I knew exactly where this was going, we went to the garden centre, looked at water features, went for a cuppa in the cafe, and all the time I could see his mind was elsewhere - back in that Burstner! When we left the garden centre (without the water feature) he said he wanted to go back and have another look. Off we went back the way we'd already been, and I said I'd wait in the car while he went and had a look and spoke to the salesman. After 20 minutes and feeling the effect of my two cups of tea, I was just starting to gather myself together to go and use the toilets in the showroom when another salesman came out and said 'He said to come and tell you he's bought it and do you want to have another look at it'!!! Well I was slightly shocked, but not really surprised, because I know what hubby is like, once he sets his mind at something, that's it, he doesn't let go until he's either done what he set out to do or bought what it was he was after! But something this big was a first, even for him!
I went inside and sat with him while he dealt with all the paperwork and had a coffee, we had another look at the motor home, and off home we went to tell the girls - our three dogs that is, Jess, Heidi and Lilly! They will be the ones that will benefit from this as much as us, because they will have more space to spread out when we're travelling to Spain, and we won't have the stress of booking in and out of hotel rooms, we will just need to find campsites or stop overs where dogs are accepted!
We pick 'Juno' up this Friday, we have named her 'Juno' after hubby's mum June, who loved her caravan when she was alive, and I know she will be looking down on us and smiling, knowing that we're back 'in the fold' so to speak, after 15 years without a caravan. I am so looking forward to many happy outings with our girls, and I will keep you all informed of our travels as we set out on ventures new with 'Juno'!!
Oh and in case you were wondering, we found a lovely garden water feature, bought it online and it was delivered today! Think it may go down in history as the most expensive water feature ever! Pictures of that to follow - the gardeners don't start until the 4th of May!
